FIVE DAYS OF INNOVATION: WELCOME TO THE NEW CULTURAL ECOSYSTEM (tickets starting from 68 euros)

Dear THE ARTS+ friends,

In just a few days, THE ARTS+ will open in Hall 4.1 during the Frankfurter Buchmesse (11-15 October 2017). So I’d like to recommend a creative start to your Wednesday morning. That’s when we’re expecting high-profile keynote Speakers, including former Senior Adviser to Obama and Head of Global Public Policy at Google Caroline Atkinson, Donald Potard and the Artistic Director of the Volksbühne Chris Dercon. Things will continue in a similarly spectacular fashion on two stages all the way until Sunday. And, by the way, the ARTS+ programme with over 50 creative speakers from all around the world is included in the price of admission to the Frankfurter Buchmesse – so make sure buy your ticket, prices starting from 68 euros, now. Let’s come together to discuss the latest trends for culture professionals, creatives and media producers and celebrate creativity.

An exciting exhibition this year features publishers like Gestalten and TASCHEN Verlag, as well as cultural institutions like the Städel Museum and Munch Museum from Oslo. And, on the Saturday and Sunday of the fair, our pop-up museum (in collaboration with Europeana) will show you a completely new approach to art and culture.

I look forward to your visit!
Holger Volland

“I’M EXTREMELY INTERESTED IN THINGS WITH A +”

Chris Dercon, Artistic Director of the Volksbühne Berlin, known as a cosmopolitan boundary breaker in the cultural world, will be one of the speakers at the opening ceremony of THE ARTS+. In our interview, we talked to him about what culture should achieve today in our age of digitalisation, the significance of language in the age of Twitter, upcoming projects and why we should always add a plus sign to all disciplines. »

PROJECT MAGENTA: THE NEXT (R)EVOLUTION OF THE MACHINE

Douglas Eck, a Research Scientist with our partner Google, will introduce you to Magenta, a Google Brain effort to generate music, video, images and text using deep learning and reinforcement learning.

New technology has always played a role in artistic creation. But recent technologies have brought machine-driven creation to a new level: Can machine learning actually create compelling art and music? Will the machine become the next genius? And if so, how? If not, why not? And: What will be the role of artists and creatives be in this new game? »
